The GSMA Mobile World Congress is a combination of the world’s largest exhibition for the mobile industry and a conference featuring prominent executives representing mobile operators, device manufacturers, technology providers, vendors and content owners from across the world. The event for this year took place as usual in Barcelona, from 22nd to 25th February.
As the event’s motto says “Mobile is everything” and everything mobile has been shown at the MWC’16:
over 100,000 people attended the Congress from 204 different countries, and more than 2200 companies participated to the exhibition, which spanned nine halls and one dozen outdoor spaces at Fira Gran Via and Fira Montjuïc.
In addition to the exhibition areas, the conference program was rich of keynote, performed by 374 speakers from consumer brands, mobile organization, mobile operator and industries touched by the mobile market, such us advertising, banking, health, NGOs, entertainment and education.
Furthermore, a significant importance has been given to networking moments with special events , user conference and training about many topics, the “4 Years from Now” project, that brought together start-ups, investors and interested business owners to create learning and networking opportunities, and the promotion of GSMA’s Connected Women program, developed to bring together women in the mobile industry – according to the fact that more than 20% of MWC attendees were female.
C.I.E. Telematica has been there just as a visitor, to meet our partners who participated to this incredible show. We met RADWIN and Ceragon, specialized in wireless connections, MRV who is leader in optical transportation, RAD that gave a demonstration of edge virtualization solution for flexible, pay-as-you-deploy vCPE with powerful D-NFV orchestrator and performance monitoring, and Raisecom, that presented new solutions such as the Mobile Edge Computing Gateway (MECG) to improve and maximize mobile traffic, IoT solutions for M2M verticals, and field proven multi-purpose Small Cells.
The Mobile World Congress 2016, was above all a showcase of new market and technologies trends, where NFV, Internet of Things and Smart City application implemented with LoRa protocol were the main topics, in addition with brand-new tendency such as virtual and augmented reality, 5G network, and the increasingly request of security solution in every possible application fields, for instance firewall for smartphone, mobile payments and safe remote access from mobile devices.
Mobile World Congress 2016 was definitely a not-to-be-missed event and the only thing we can suggest to you is to mark your calendars for the next year: the MWC’17 will take place 27th February to 2nd March. Don’t miss it!
